Strong Sales of New Battery Electric Vehicles Face Tariff Threat
Mitchell today released its Plugged-In: EV Collision Insights report for Q1 2025. This edition of the quarterly publication examines how new U.S. tariffs are threatening consumer adoption and sales of battery electric vehicles (аÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±). It also explains why these automobiles are at a disadvantage compared to their internal combustion engine (ICE) counterparts when it comes to import taxes.

Plugged-In: EV Collision Insights Q1 2025
In Q1 2025, claims frequency for repairable, collision-damaged battery electric vehicles (аÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±) rose to 3.12% in the U.S. and 4.48% in Canada. That is an increase of approximately 31% in the U.S. and Canada over Q1 2024 and 2% and 4% respectively over the previous quarter. BEV sales remain strong and accounted for more than 9% of new vehicle sales in the U.S. and 10% of new vehicle sales in Canada in March 2025.
